Gladiator
Gladiator is what championship is all about. Thrilling and exciting, it embraces technical standards of filmmaking rarely anticipated in earlier epics.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Once in a great while, a movie engages us so thoroughly that we slip the surly bonds of Earth and experience a rare moment of transcendence. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is such a movie.

Chocolat
Based on the novel by Joanne Harris, Chocolat overflows with the kind of lovable eccentrics that Director Lasse Hallström celebrates, but without the dramatic edge of the director's other works. It's pretty, bucolic - and so very sweet.

Erin Brockovich
Like the real-life heroine it celebrates, Erin Brokovich triumphantly breaks unspoken rules. It's a victory for Julia Roberts, co-star Albert Finney and director Steven Soderbergh. It's also a victory for the audience.

Traffic
The film traces the United States' losing war on drug trafficking to the uneasy truth that ours is a country of addicts. Drug traffic will continue and even flourish because it feeds addictions – not only to drugs, but also to money, luxury, escapism and immediate satisfaction.
